Pink Christmas Cactus

Happy Pink Saturday Everyone and Happy New Year!

First off I would like to thank Beverly from How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday each week. Click on the Image in the right sidebar to visit her site.  I have been away from blogging for a while.  I'm so happy to be back!  You can catch up on my life while I was away in the So Many Updates post below.

Today I am blogging about my beloved Christmas cactus.  I have been trying to get this poor thing to bloom for 6 years.  I have re-potted it, put it in a dark place for several months, watered it and lovingly cared for it.  It just wouldn't bloom.  It has flourished in size but just no blooms...until now!

I think I have finally solved the problem, the location!  I moved into my current house just over a year ago and found a nice window with indirect sunlight.  I was told it should be in a southern facing window but this one faces the north.  I suspected I would be bloom doomed again this year, but low and behold I have these beautiful pink flowers!  I'm so excited!  I have more buds appearing daily, a little after Christmas but that's okay with me!  It's BLOOMING!!

Enjoy your day and stay warm if you're in the northern climates like I am.  A foot of snow and temperatures in the teens...I want to live somewhere warmer than this!  Hopefully soon!

Hugs,

Tammi

YOU WILL GET SO MANY BLOOMS ON YOUR CACTUS IT WILL BE A VISION OF BEAUTY
EVERYONE OF MY CHRISTMAS CACTUS ARE AT EVERY NORTH WINDOW OF MY HOUSE. THEY STARTED OUT BLOOMING ONLY ON CHRISTMAS BUT OVER THE PAST 7 YEARS THEY BLOOM ANY WHERE FROM DECEMBER TO APRIL.....THIS YEAR OUR ONLY DAUGHTER PASSED ON OCT. 23,2009 AND 2 DAYS LATER THEY WERE BLOOMING...THEY HAVE NEVER BLLOMED IN OCTOBER...THEY SAY THEY CAN LIVE UP TO 100 YEARS OLD AND CAN BE PLACED FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.....IF A PIECE BREAKS OFF I JUST PUT IT IN WATER TO ROOT IT AND THEN PLANT IT.
I WAS SORRY TO HEAR TOBY PASSED. HE AT LEAST FOUND WHAT LOVE WAS BEFORE HE WENT HOME. THERE IS NO GREATER PET THAN ONE YOU RESCUE.

  11. Good job! Yes, it must have been the location change that helped the Christmas Cactus to bloom.

  13. I'm a day late and a dollar short with my Pink Saturday visits. The sun was shining too bright yesterday and just like a little kid I couldn't stop marveling at how lovely it was as it beamed through my lace curtains and puddled on the floor. My cats were in heaven.

So, here I am today, a little late but thinking that I got a bonus because I avoided all the traffic!

Lovely blog and the sweetest pinks that you shared. Thank you so much for making this such a lovely Sunday for me.

  14. I didn't know there was a Christmas cactus. The tiny blooms are too cute. It's like they are peeking through among the greens :-) I think they brought a wonderful surprise to you especially since you didn't expect them :-)

  17. I love when my christmas cactus blooms. I have had it for awhile and it blooms more and more everytime. Mine sits near an east facing window. I'm sure yours will do just fine now that it has started blooming!
